Matcha Blueberry Superfoods Shake – Morning Booster

Antioxidants and Deliciousness Blended into the Ideal Morning Beverage

Match Blueberry 1

One of the greatest outcomes of my huge lifestyle shift around 2010 was that my husband got into the habit of making Green Smoothies almost daily.  He would usually make a whole pitcherful so he’d have leftovers for the following day (because of their high fiber content, smoothies stay pretty tasty for an extra day or two in the fridge).  But with the current cyclospora situation, we’ve been a bit wary of buying greens.

Recently I went back to making a delicious “Sunday Morning Shake” that features organic supergreens powder (feels safer for now :- ) and many of the ingredients I’ll mention below.  While my husband loves the matcha flavored Remedy Organic superhealthy shakes, they can be both a bit pricey and caloric (although I love that their matcha shake features coconut sugar instead of cane sugar!)  So, I revisited those beloved shakes and added some powdered matcha to his rave review.  (Of course it helps that I add some cacao nibs – after all, who can resist having a healthy shake that has some chocolate flavor to it!)

Blended smoothies and shakes always taste best cold, so after I give everything a good run-through in the blender on high, I add in some ice cubes and blend for another round.  The other day we thought about adding frozen blueberries next time to add even more frostiness and antioxidants.  Today we tried that out and it tasted great.  So, I’m anxious to share this with you.  It’s going to be nutritious and delicious with even half these ingredients so don’t feel you have to run out and buy all of them!

Suggestions for Sensational Shakes (but whatever you have on hand)

Base:  I use vanilla almond milk, a splash of Planet Oat Extra Creamy unsweetened and some coconut water.  You can keep it simple with your favorite mylk or if dairy is part of your regime, that can be your based mixed with some filtered or alkaline water.

Sweetened With: I I use 5 pitted medjool dates (excellent fiber source) and either some date syrup, maple syrup, monk fruit, coconut sugar or raw honey.  Feel free to sub with any that you prefer, but I’d recommend staying away from artificial sweeteners to keep this shake at its best nutritional potential.

After I have those in the blender, I tap in a layer of organic matcha powder.  I don’t really measure as it’s more of “calculation by eye” just creating one small layer on top of the next.

Then I add:

Organic Supergreens Powder (you can easily find good and reasonably priced brands on Amazon or websites that sell healthy supplements)

Chia seeds

Hempseeds (that’s actually what I have sprinkled on top in the photos)

Lucuma powder (this is a superfood sweetener or flour substitute that is made from a popular South American fruit that is loaded with antioxidants)

Maca powder (Another superfood considered to be a hormone stabilizer)

Cacao nibs – Made from the pure cacao bean, these are loaded with good stuff and also weave a pleasant chocolate flavor throughout the shake.  This also makes it a potential caffeine replacement.  You can either leave these out or add 1-2 teaspoons of cocoa powder.

Blend it all up for a minute or two and add a half cup of frozen or fresh blueberries.  If you want it colder, add some ice cubes and reblend until nice and smooth.

This shake is filling and loaded with anti-aging superfoods that can also help boost your immunity and performance.  This morning booster also fills me up and replaces breakfast for both of us when we make these.

ENJOY!

By the way, if you’ve never tried Green Smoothies – watch me make a simple yet sensational blend in this video.
