About the Program

Mothering Didn’t Get Harder. The Support Around It Disappeared.

People have been mothering since long before civilization. So how could it be so hard now? Mothers haven’t changed — what’s changed, in the last 50 to 100 years, is the conditions around mothering. For nearly all of human history, the job of raising a child was distributed across grandmothers, aunts, older siblings, and neighbors. Today, one or two adults are routinely expected to do what an entire community once provided.

This course opens in evolutionary biology and anthropology, moves through the identity and relationship shifts of matrescence, examines the cultural machinery that manufactures parenting guilt, and closes with the concrete tools a coach uses to lighten the load — while staying clearly within scope.

Objectives
What You’ll Be Able to Do
×

By the end of this certification, you will be able to:

  • Explain the historical and anthropological basis for shared caregiving, and use it to help a client reframe her exhaustion as a structural gap rather than a personal failing.
  • Identify the mental load, matrescence, and the measurable effects of motherhood on identity, work, and relationships.
  • Separate evidence-based parenting guidance from culturally manufactured guilt on contested topics like screen time, sleep training, and risky play.
  • Build a client’s care team and recognize when a concern has crossed from “hard” into a clinical or safety emergency requiring referral.
  • Apply a six-session framework — from intake through load-mapping, redistribution, and protected personal time — using this course’s worksheets.
  • Work within a coach’s scope at all times: facilitating, supporting and referring — never diagnosing or treating.
